Start ut your thanksgiving meal with vegetables and a glass of water before proceeding to eat other dips, deserts and drinks. This will help you feel satisfied and prevent the dreaded “food coma” from overeating.
Any physical activity counts! Raking leaves, taking the dog on a walk, and sweeping/mopping the floors all keep our bodies moving. You can always make chores more challenging by doing lunges when mopping or seeing who can rake the fastest.
‘Tis the season to sample every food made within eyesight, right? Remember a bite here and there can add up in calories. If you are going to try it all then just remember to keep the portions small!
Cakes, pastries, and pies-OH MY! Try to cut out fat by substituting ½ the oil with natural applesauce or mashed banana in your favorite desserts.
Make your child’s lunch box healthier by adding 100% juice boxes instead of soda or vegetable sticks instead of chips. Keep them fuller for longer by using 100% whole grain products.
Fall is perfect for outside activities! Not getting enough physical activity in your day? Add more walking by parking one row further away each day from work, or choose a parking stall that’s the furthest from the store. It will only add 10 more seconds to your destination!
Encourage your children to get up and move around by creating a scavenger hunt around your home or block.
