What we witnessed today was pretty much par for the course for any media day. Every one seemed to be in great spirits, everyone seemed to be excited for the talent they had coming back ni 2012.
Some things we learned:
- Gary Patterson is still learning about the Big 12, he even said as much. Does he need more athletic Defensive Ends? Does he need bigger Defensive tackles? Stronger guards? Bigger tight ends? Honetly Patterson said he still does not know. He is still learning about exactly what is needed from a personnel perspective to be succesful in the Big 12.
- Bob Stoops was money today. The OU head coach is not only excited about the TWO crystal trophies he has from playing Pebble Beach and the Pro Am this past off season, but also the team he has coming back in 2012. You get the sense there is a quiet confidence about the continual improvement of Kenny Stills. Also you can consistently see the growth of Landry Jones.
- Believe it or not the quietest day today was Paul Rhoads. The Iowa State head coach was his usual "quotastic" self, but did not really go out of his way to spread the word as he did in 2011. Still we learned a lot about the strength of the Iowa State linebacking corp.
- Beyond the OU players without a doubt the biggest impression was left by Colin Klein. The 16 steps to success that Bill Snyder lays out every year are definitely personified by this squad and specifically this quarterback. Klein was solid, poised, and impressive during his media sessions. Really floored by his demeanor in a good way.
